The magnets keep the cover securely closed, the cover folds completely back for reading, and all the buttons and switches are mostly accessible. I say mostly because if the Kindle isn't completely in the case, the power button is a bit hard to activate. Also, the material of the case gets a little in the way when plugging in the mini USB and picking it out of the way is difficult unless you have longish fingernails. This cover, like the other colors by this manufacturer, is fairly stinky fresh out of the box. I cooked it in my car in 100+ degree weather for a few days to hasten the chemical off-gassing (and a few nights in a box with some baking soda to absorb any odors) and now I have no major complaints about its odor (it does still smell a bit if you smash your nose against the inside and breathe deeply, but how often does a person do that?).
The color is a dark true blue with a faint basket-weave pattern in black on it. No glitter like the black and red swirl covers. It looks like it could easily fit in with a collection of leather-bound books. The inside cover is a dark blue velvety material. There are no additional pockets which might have been nice, and the cover is a bit slippery feeling. It has a texture but still feels slightly oily; it isn't actually oily it just feels a bit weird. And the velvety inside does seem to pick up dust but it is also dark enough that it shouldn't show fingerprints. I haven't tried dropping the Kindle (and I am not going to), but the cover seems like it will protect the device adequately and there is simply no way for the Kindle to slip out of this cover. Besides a pocket or two for cards and notes, the only other thing I could wish for is a third magnet to hold the cover in the full open position. It doesn't have that so c'est la vie.
Overall, this is a great cover. The front flap is fully secure with the magnets and it protects the device when closed and folds completely back for reading. The color is very smart, and it is a great alternative to a standard black or brown case. Four stars out of five.
