Let me preface this review by saying the one thing I categorically learned from this item is that I don't like the flip-book style covers for my Kindle. That is a personal preference and I'll explain how I came to that decision, but it colors this review. I should also preface with the fact that I purchased this cover months before actually buying the Kindle as it was on sale and I knew I'd be getting a Kindle at some point. Had it been within the 30 days when I got to actually use it, I'm sure I would have returned it.
I gave this item three stars because I'm sure if you prefer book style cases, this one would be more than adequate. This item is well made and feels nice and the pocket on the side could be very useful. It also felt nice and light... until I put the Kindle in it and tried to read for more than ten minutes. I found this case too bulky, heavy, awkward, and did not think it gave my Kindle enough protection. I prefer to read my Kindle naked, but when taking my Kindle out into the wild it needs to be protected. As much as I love my sleeves for the Kindle, they only work when transporting it from my apartment to someone else's apartment/home, not for reading in-transit. I needed something I could leave my Kindle in and read. However, I found this uncomfortable to hold (especially with my left hand), hard to turn the page while it was in, and the strap with the magnet was constantly getting in the way. I tended to bend it back between the covers and snap it into place backwards to keep it out of the way, but my fingers kept hitting it and knocking it loose. I also did not think this item afforded my Kindle enough protection. It's not closed on the sides and it holds the device in through four corner closures. The bottom two are somewhat sturdy reinforced leather (or whatever material this cover is made from). The twop two are elastic bands. This makes it very easy to insert and remove my Kindle, but I constantly worried whether the device would stay in the case or pop out if I end up dropping the device due to a sudden stop on public transportation (I've been known to drop things when those frequent brake-slammers occur).
When all was said and done, I decided to eat the $20 I spent on this and buy a new case. I went with the JAVOedge Bahamas Flip Style Case for the Amazon Kindle 2 (2nd Gen)and I MUCH prefer that one. It holds my device much more securely, is a lot lighter, and I really prefer the flip style. I won't be buying another book style case.
